Minicomic 04 : Fresh spinach

Background to Comic

I was told this story about being in the supermarket. The story is about being judged and how stressfull this gets. So stressful that one relates everything self-conciously to oneself. I gladly made a comic out of it. Below the visual Comic find a text-based version, Screenreadable Comic Version.

Fresh spinach

Minicomic 4

She picks up a bunch of leaves.

In the canned food aisle a kid is pulling their fathers coat: “Daddy, Daaaaddy, Daaad, I want chocolate chip cookies!”

The kid then watches her and blurts out: “Daddy, is that a man or a woman.”

“Great!”, she spits out and does not turn around.

Wanting to distract the child the parent tells them: “Come on the cookies are over there.”

She puts the bunch of leaves into a plastic bag.

Irritably she is pushing her shopping cart to the checkout counter. Behind the smiling cashier sliding doors are closing.

The are vegetables, milk and grapefruits in the cart.

As milk and vegetables move with the conveyor, the cashier asks: “What is that?”

“What?” she replies annoyed.

The cashier points at the leaves in the plastic bag: “That.”

Realizing what is actually asked of her she replies: “Oh right, this is spinach.” She pushes the cart to the end of the conveyor belt.

“It does not look like spinach, well I only know it frozen.” says the cashier happily to her colleague.

The other one replies: “But I think this looks like smallish chard!”

But there is fresh spinach in the bag! When you are spinach you know the difference.
